CAFOD calls for young film makers to help save the world

CAFOD is calling on budding young directors to create short, climate-themed films for The Climate Coalition's Close-up on Climate film project. Anyone aged 5-18 can enter, and the most inspiring and creative films will feature in the Coalition's For The Love Of campaign throughout 2015.

Any entries received by 10 June will also be considered for screening at the Coalition's lobby of Parliament on 17 June, and there are plans for an exciting Close-up on Climate event later this year where the best films will be shown to a specially selected audience.

This year is crucial in the fight against climate change. In December world leaders will meet in Paris at a UN climate summit to decide on a global agreement to tackle climate change. Any children or young people who enter are encouraged to share their film with their local MP to make their voices heard in the run-up to the summit.

Lucy Jardine, CAFOD's Youth Outreach and Events Coordinator, said: "Climate change is affecting so many of the things we love. Even if you're not old enough to vote, it's important to show our politicians just how much we care.

"So many of the children and young people we work with are determined to help tackle climate change. They're passionate, creative and have the power to inspire the rest of us to take action."

Entries close on Friday 24 July 2015 and all submissions should be uploaded to the Close-up on Climate website: www.fortheloveof.org.uk/closeup.

CAFOD works with children and young people in England and Wales to deepen an understanding of the causes of global poverty and injustice and offers ways for them to take action to bring about a just and sustainable world.
