Plater Trust makes four awards for research into Catholic Social Teaching & Practice

The annual Plater Trust awards ceremony was held at the Cardinal Hume Centre, Westminster on 26th February to announce the latest recipients of Trust grants. It was hosted by the Trust's Chairman, Cardinal Vincent Nichols. The theme for this year's awards is for research into "the specifically Catholic character of the mission and work of Catholic charities today and their links to Catholic Social Teaching"

The four successful award winners in 2015 are:

The Theos think tank for research into "Being a Catholic charity in Britain today: what it is and what it can be", in partnership with six Catholic charities (Father Hudson's, Caritas Birmingham, Apostleship of the Sea, Worldwide Marriage Encounter, Retrouvaille England and Wales and St Vincent de Paul). (£39,750)

Roehampton University in partnership with Marriage Care to fund research into "How does Marriage Care's specifically Catholic ethos shape the provision and experience of marriage preparation provided by the charity? What contribution does this make to the effective societal embodiment of CST in our own context, especially in relation to relationship poverty and its alleviation?" (£48,302)

Von Hugel Institute, St Edmund's College, Cambridge University for research into "The relevance of Catholic social thought and practice in the field of migration and asylum policy in the UK." (£24,000)

Funding for a PhD Plater Trust scholarship at Durham University's Centre for Catholic Studies exploring "the work of a cluster of six Catholic Social Action Network (CSAN) member charities, working in the area of homelessness and social inclusion". (£15,000 in each of the next three years) The Charles Plater Trust is a charitable organisation dedicated to advancing social justice through education.

Established as the successor to the former Plater College, Oxford, the Trust makes grants to organisations throughout England and Wales in pursuit of the Plater vision. Each year a theme is used to highlight a particular side of this vision, whether emphasising the development of lay leadership, bringing education and opportunity to the most marginalised, or developing innovative new applications of Catholic social thought.
