Zimbabwe: Bro Canisius Chishiri SJ, founder of Zambuko House, has died

Jesuit Brother and founder of Zambuko House for street children, Brother Canisius Chishiri, died in Harare yesterday morning, 6 November.

In a brief statement, Father Lawrence Daka SJ, Assistant Provincial in the Zimbabwe Jesuit Province, said: "Bro Chishiri, a member of the ZIM Province, died today 6 November 2014 aged 66 at Richartz House, Harare, Zimbabwe."

A Wake Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Wayside on Sunday 9 November 2014 at 5.30pm. His Funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of the Wayside on Monday 10 November, 2014 at 9am.

The burial will take place at Chishawasha Cemetery immediately after Mass at Our Lady of the Wayside

Brother Canisus Chisiri SJ was born on  1 January 1948 at Nyanga, Zimbabwe. He joined Jesuits on 25 May 1972 and did his Novitiate in Lusaka and took his first vows on 25 May 1974. He made his final Profession in the Society on 2 January 1986 at St George's Harare.

He had the following appointments:

1974- 1978: CCPTR Programme for pastoral work at Mhondoro, St Michael's Mission

1978-1983: C.C.P.TR Programme Prestage House, Harare

1983-1993: Mission Administrator, St Paul's Musami Mission

1993-2005: Street Children project, in Harare.

2005-2014: Moved to Richartz House.

He passed on peacefully in the early morning of Thursday 6th November 2014 at Richartz House, Harare - Zimbabwe
