Watch: Missio film shows works of Catholic missionaries in Cambodia

Missio, the Pope’s official charity for overseas mission, has created a short film about the inspiring work of missionaries serving in Cambodia.

The six-minute film tells the story of Sr Eulie, a Filipina Sister who has served as a missionary in Cambodia for 15 years. In 2006 Sr Eulie started a school for the children of factory workers in Phnom Penh after realising that many were being locked in their houses because their parents didn’t have the correct papers to send them to school.

The school, which is called the Lindalva Centre after Blessed Lindalva Justo de Oliveira DC, the famous missionary who gave her life in God’s service, is located in a rented building just outside the centre of Phnom Penh city. Sr Eulie and her team of three teachers educate, feed and care for 60 children.

Thanks to those who support Missio and the Mill Hill Missionaries, England’s only missionary society, Sr Eulie is able to share the love of Christ with children and families in this predominantly Buddhist community.

"Our work with the children has really impacted the parents and helped them understand our Christian values", says Sr Eulie. "I believe we are called to serve Jesus in word and deed. By serving the children through the Lindalva Centre, people see the love of Christ in action."

The Red Box, Missio and the Mill Hill Missionaries’ joint fundraising tool in England and Wales, is currently in 200,000 Catholic homes. The pounds collected in the Red Box go to support missionaries and the Church in the poorest communities around the world.

Mgr Canon James Cronin, National Director of Missio, says: "Inspiring missionaries like Sr Eulie who spend their lives in service to the Gospel values of love and hope, would not be able to do their life-changing work were it not for the generosity of Catholics in the UK. I hope this short film will encourage all those who currently support Missio and Mill Hill and I pray that many more will be inspired to take a Red Box into their home and become missionaries themselves in this way."

Fr Anthony Chantry, General Superior of the Mill Hill Missionaries, says: "The Red Box enables us to live out our missionary commitment which comes from our baptism. As you can see from Sr Eulie’s service of those in great need, such a small box can make a big difference to people in places like Cambodia. I hope that this glimpse into the world of mission will remind us all not just of the wonderful work being done by missionaries throughout the world, but also of the immense amount of missionary work still to be done. Red Box donations make this possible."
