Worldwide vigils call for action on climate change on anniversary of Typhoon Haiyan
This Friday, 22 November, marks two weeks since the devastating Super-Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines. Campaigners will be holding a vigil of prayer and solidarity with those who have been affected. The vigil will be taking place outside the Philippines UK Embassy.
This Friday also coincides with the end of this week's UN climate talks , COP19, in Warsaw, where Yeb Sano, the Climate Commissioner for the Philippines, made an impassioned plea for action. He said: "Superstorm Haiyan is a climate nightmare -- carbon pollution is driving more frequent and intense storms which are devastating vulnerable communities. New realities require new politics, I urge you to stop the sad tradition of feet-dragging on commitments to cut pollution, and breaking promises on finance"
Please come along and stand in solidarity with the people of the Philippines. If possible please bring a glass jar and a tea candle, and don't forget to wrap up warm.
The vigil is from 6-8pm outside Phillippines Embassy, 6-8 Suffolk Street, SW1Y 4HG
