Letter: Petition in support of Sisters in Cremisan Valley

The Salesian Nuns of the Cremisan Valley are going to lose most of their land and be surrounded on three sides by the Israeli separation wall unless you and I can persuade Secretary Kerry to intervene for peace.

Recently the Israeli Special Appeals Committee for land seizure under emergency law released its verdict in the case of the Cremisan Valley. The verdict ruled in favour of the proposed alternative route of the separation wall. The committee decided that building the wall according to the alternative route which will surround the Salesian Nuns' Convent and Primary School from three sides and will confiscate most of the convent's lands, is a reasonable solution that balances Israel's security needs on one hand, and freedom of religion and the right to education on the other. The separation wall would also sever the convent from the Salesian monastery.

Click here to encourage Secretary Kerry to raise to the Israeli government that land expropriation does not serve the cause of peace, undermines the position of Palestinian and Israelis moderates working for peace, and strengthens extremists whose positions prolong the suffering of all peoples.

While representatives of the land owners in the Cremisan Valley are considering taking the case to the Israeli High Court, we know that this situation needs a political solution based on the two-state solution so that all people will have equal and representative access to the governmental authorities that govern their
lives and property.
