Mr John Browne

The Governors of St Aloysius' College have appointed Mr John Browne as Head Master of the Glasgow college with effect from 1 August 2013. He will succeed Mr John Stoer, who retires at the end of this academic year after nine years as Head of the Jesuit college. Mr Browne is currently Deputy Head at Ampleforth College in North Yorkshire and said he is delighted to be moving to Glasgow to lead St Aloysius' College.

"The formation of young people is both a privilege and a responsibility," he said, "and I look forward to taking the school on the next stage of its journey. I was fortunate to benefit from a Jesuit education myself [at St Ignatius College in Enfield, North London] and hope to further develop the Jesuit character of the school 'in the spirit, from the heart, practically" (Jerome Nadal SJ).'

Dr Frank Dunn, Chair of the Board of Governors, commented: "Mr Browne will bring to St Aloysius' College a wealth of experience and a track record of success at a senior level in independent and Catholic education. We are delighted to welcome him, his wife Marie and son William to Glasgow."

Prior to taking up his role at Ampleforth, Mr Browne was the Head Master of Westminster Cathedral Choir School, having held Director of Music and Assistant Director of Music posts at Berkhamsted School and The Latymer School. He has a BA in Music from the University of Bristol, a postgraduate LLB from City University, London and a Masters in Business Administration.
