To coincide with the launch of the Year of Faith on 11th October 2012 ooberfuse, London band ooberfuse are releasing their new single Credo, a song which explores the ancient mystery of faith through the contemporary sounds of electro-pop. Listen to the track here: http://ooberfuse.bandcamp.com/track/credo Speaking of the Year of Faith, which will look at new ways to make the Christian Faith more widely known and understood, Pope Benedict says: "It is a solemn moment for the whole Church to make an authentic and sincere profession of the same faith so as to re-invigorate it, purify it, confirm it, and confess it. The Credo...needs to be confirmed, understood and explored ever anew, so as to bear consistent witness in historical circumstances very different from those in the past. The Year of Faith is a summons to an authentic and renewed conversion to the Lord, the one Saviour of the world." With the Pope’s words in mind, ooberfuse wrote the song “Credo”. Cherrie, the band’s front-woman, says: "We are excited and humbled to be a part of this worldwide initiative to share the love of Christ with others who perhaps have not heard the message of faith because it has not been spoken in a language that they understand. Credo demonstrates that the subtle textures and nuances of our faith, condemned to silence because they cannot be articulated through traditional means, can be expressed through modern cultural forms and contemporary musical traditions. This insight was the vision that inspired the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council whose 50th anniversary coincides with the launch of the Year of Faith on 11th October 2012."
Credo is one of the band’s response to the Holy Father’s call for the new evangelisation for the transmission of the Christian faith. Hal, from ooberfuse, continues : ‘On 11th October we have been invited to St Aidans, a Catholic school in Sunderland, to help them celebrate the launch of the Year of Faith. We will be running workshops throughout the day to show how music can be used to bring our faith alive. The aim of the workshop is to explore, in the light of the Holy Father’s Apostolic Letter Porta Fidei, the ancient truths of our faith in fresh ways."
