Ooberfuse headlines anti-human trafficking youth concert

Electro-pop band ooberfuse will headline a concert on 7 July to highlight the issue of human trafficking, the fastest growing crime by which people are enslaved. To help draw attention to the event they have released today their electro-pop version of Matt Redman and LZ7's 27 Million.

Cherrie, front-woman for the band says: "we are thrilled to have been asked to play this gig. Our aim is to help expose the horrific facts behind human trafficking and at the same time highlight that there are ways to make a difference."

Hal, from ooberfuse adds: "Gathering statistics to get an idea of the scale of the problem is extremely difficult because this is a hidden crime that does not show up on normal radar screens. Because it is carried out in the shadows it therefore often lies undetected. According to UNICEF 1.2 million children are trafficked every year. The risks are increased around major sporting events like the forthcoming 2012 Olympics. The Anti-Trafficking Alliance for example have evidence from previous sporting events that suggests a surge in the number of visitors to a country can lead to an increased demand for prostitution - and an increase in trafficking to meet this demand."

The band says: "We hope that through our music we will be able to add our voices to those calling for an end to this ugly crime that destroys so many people's lives. Please come and join us next Saturday, 7:30 pm at Grimsby Minster. In the meantime check out our version of 27 Million! "

The concert, organised by the ONE Youth Partnership in Grimsby, is part of a wider initiative of Churches Together in North East Lincolnshire's Week Against Human Trafficking which runs from 1-8 July.
