Get a bird's eye view of Liverpool Cathedral

Individuals, charities and businesses are being invited to help raise money for Liverpool Anglican Cathedral - and get a unique ‘birds eye view’ in return. People can now register for a 150ft freefall abseil from the top of the Cathedral’s West Doors, which takes place on Friday 10 August.

Individual participants are asked to pay a registration fee of £35 and raise a minimum of £120 each for the Cathedral Foundation, which helps keep the Cathedral free to visitors and supports its work in the community. Businesses and charities can also buy time slots from the Cathedral in which they can raise money for their own charitable causes. Multiple year packages are also available for charities and businesses.

Two ropes are available so that friends can abseil together, and it is open to anyone over 18 in a good state of medical and fitness health. No prior experience is necessary.

Dan Bishop took part last year and said: “The views from the top of the West doors are genuinely amazing. As well as the vista of Liverpool and beyond, you are also able to see things up close that you wouldn't usually notice, such as the detail of the West Window and the intricacies of the external arches on the building.”

Jean Gratton who also took part said,: “I would recommend this abseil to anyone, the sense of achievement is something that you’ll never forget!”

Rebecca Bentham, Fundraising Manager, said: “We receive no direct funding from government, and rely on events such as this abseil to help keep our Cathedral free to visitors. The Cathedral holds a special place in most Merseysider’s hearts, and this is a truly unique way to experience the building whilst helping us in our mission to remain open to all and to develop our work in the community.”
