New resources to help churches run Olympic community festivals

A new website to help churches set up community festivals in time for the opening night of the Olympics has just been released.
"Churches have been inspired by what has happened during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and many now want to seize the opportunity offered by the Games, so we have created a new website that has all a church needs to start from scratch and be ready in time," said Marty Woods, Community Festivals Team Leader of More Than Gold, the agency helping churches make the most of the 2012 Games.
The website includes free access to five videos that show effective community festivals in action and which will help equip churches to deliver them. For £12, it is also possible to download a range of practical guides on publicity, how to run games like ‘water balloon volleyball’ and how to use activities to create a spirit of celebration. There is also a step-by-step guide to being ready for the Olympic celebrations in just seven weeks.
The website is based on Fusion’s experience in running community festivals around the world for the past 40 years.
Marty said: "It’s not too late. There’s nothing stopping any church from using the Olympics to engage with their community and build relationships of trust for years to come. And everything they need is right here."
