Palm Sunday procession in north London
Jesus' entry into Jerusalem was re-enacted in north London on Sunday, when members of several churches gathered together for an Ecumenical Procession with a donkey, and a Blessing of the Palms at the Manor House gates of Finsbury Park.
Parishioners from St Thomas More's Roman Catholic Church, St Olave's, and St John the Evangelist Anglican Churches and the Methodist United Reform Church of Finsbury Park were welcomed with music and drumming from the Blema African Dance group. St Olave's Choir led the hymns; Fr Tunde Roberts and Fr Kassa Tsegaye led prayers and reflections; Fr Alan Murray read the Gospel and Fr Clive Lee gave the homily.
It was a beautiful sunny day. After the service, traffic came to a standstill as the crowd led by the Blema Dance troupe, processed through the streets to each of their different churches, for their Palm Sunday celebrations. Children took turns to ride William the donkey, on their way back to St Thomas More's for Mass.
