Anniversary celebrations at Plymouth Cathedral
A special Mass took place yesterday to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Plymouth's Roman Catholic cathedral.
Hundreds of parishioners from across the South West attended the service.
The principal celebrant was Bishop Christopher Budd. The Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Faustino Sainz Munoz, and Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor also attended. After the Mass there was a reception in the Guildhall.
Although the Catholic Diocese of Plymouth was established in 1850, the Cathedral Church of St Mary and St Boniface was not built until 1858.
