Cardinal O'Brien welcomes Scottish Government's pledge on aid
Cardinal Keith O'Brien has today welcomed the announcement by the Scottish Government that its International Aid commitments would not be cut. Speaking about the decision, the Cardinal said: "I greatly welcome the fact that in these difficult economic times the Scottish Government have been able to sustain Scotland's commitment to global aid and development."
He added: "It is a testament to Scotland's renowned internationalism that this element of the budget has not been removed or reduced. This country has a long and proud history of global outreach and concern for those in need around the world. It is heartening to know that even in the midst of harsh economic times at home we are still able to remember the far greater suffering of our fellow human beings in other countries."
