London: Living Theology Summer School

A Summer School of Catholic Faith: LIVING THEOLOGY ALLEN HALL 2010 will be held from 9 - 12 July, Friday to Monday, at Allen Hall, Beaufort Street, Chelsea, London SW3. This optional residential or non-residential long weekend is a collaboration between Allen Hall (Diocese of Westminster Seminary) and Living Theology Summer School.

This optional residential or non-residential long weekend is a collaboration between Allen Hall (Diocese of Westminster Seminary) and Living Theology Summer School and is designed to appeal principally to all who are seeking answers to the many questions and challenges to their Catholic faith raised by life in the 21st century. It is hoped the long weekend will appeal especially to people who cannot perhaps spare time for a full week-long course, whilst the daily non-residential option and afternoon Plenary Lectures also cater for those living locally.

Participants can choose one course from Group A and one from Group B which they follow throughout the weekend. Group A options are “Contemporary Ethical Questions” with Sr Helen Costigane SHCJ (Lecturer in Canon Law, Christian Ethics and Pastoral Theology , Heythrop College, University of London), or 'A Catholic understanding of the Bible' by Fr John Hemer MHM (a Mill Hill Missionary and Lecturer at Allen Hall Seminary). In Group B the choice is either 'Prayer – Talking to Yourself?' with Fr Fredrik Heiding SJ (a Swedish Jesuit currently writing a doctoral thesis at University of Oxford), or “The Sacraments of Marriage, Sexuality, the Family & Children and the teaching of scripture” by Fr Peter Burrows (a biblical scholar and Lecturer at Allen Hall).

The Plenary Lectures stand alone, but also build on the other courses. Topics planned are 'Catholics and the Bible' by Fr John Hemer MHM, 'Prayer – Why Bother?' by Fr Fredrik Heiding SJ, and 'The Catholic Moral Vision: A Guide to finding true happiness' by Fr Stephen Wang (a Westminster Diocesan priest, Dean of Studies and Lecturer at Allen Hall).

Living Theology courses are traditionally very friendly places, and course tutors and Plenary Lecturers have been chosen for their expertise and experience, and participants are promised a stimulating and exciting four days to explore these issues in relaxed and comfortable surroundings. Optional liturgies include daily Mass and Morning Prayer in Allen Hall’s own chapel, and there is evening entertainment for residents. Young people are particularly welcome.
