Lancashire: eco-school wins three Green Flags
Following a recent eco assessment St Teresa's RC Primary School in St Helens, Lancashire has become one of only a handful of schools in the country to be awarded three green flags.
Green flags are awarded to schools which promote a culture of sustainability in curriculum and culture and the 'eco warrior'pupils successfully guided the school through its third green flag assessment last month.
Headteacher, Paul Allen, said: "this is a tremendous achievement for the school as we join an elite group of schools in the country holding three green flag status. It is a real tribute to the hard work of the pupils and our Eco Co-ordinator Anne Snee".
The eco school assessors identified a number of strengths at St Teresa's including delightful, enthusiastic and knowledgeable eco pupil reps; efforts to inform and involve the local community in eco initiatives; the development of a tarmac playground into a play provision and the particularly impressive development of garden areas to encourage wildlife. The school also boasts excellent projects for raised beds for fruit and vegetables and mini beast shelters.
