Pax Christi delegation visits Iraq

Between 10 - 17 September, a delegation from Pax Christi International comprising Don Renato - Pax Christi Italy, Bishop Marc Stenger - Pax Christi France, Wiltrud Roesch-Metzler- Pax Christi Germany, Christine Hoffmann - Pax Christi Germany, Katrien Hertog - Pax Christi International, Marie Dennis - Co-president of Pax Christi International, Bishop Tom Gumbleton, USA Pax Christi, are visiting Iraq.

The purpose of the visit is to meet with different Church leaders and Church related organisations as well as with Muslim leaders, refugees, representatives of the nonviolence movement in Iraq and other NGOs. They will also visit refugee camps and displaced people.

They carry with them messages of solidarity from Pax Christi sections around the world. Stewart Hemsley, Chair of the British section of Pax Christi wrote: We, members of Pax Christi British section, wish to thank those comprising the International delegation for their commitment to the religious leaders, refugees and other NGO's in Iraq.

We pray for you that you will have a sense of our solidarity and empathy. Yours is a mission in which we are all spiritually involved.

Our message to the people of Iraq is: be assured of our deepest concern for you, our solidarity with you, and our love and prayers for you that you may be strong in adversity and kept safe in God's keeping.

I met some of you last summer, listened to your stories and heard of the hardship and pain that you suffer which is beyond anything I have experienced. Please be assured that I both tell your story and carry you in my heart. May you be both comforted and strengthened by my prayers to God who can do more than we can ever hope or imagine.
