Public art takes on the arms fair

'One and other' - is the project of sculptor Antony Gormley who is asking the people of the UK to occupy the empty Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square, a space normally reserved for statues of kings and generals, in an image of themselves and a representation of humanity. Participants are chosen by lot and represent all areas of the UK.

On Monday morning, it is the turn of a woman called Quinnie, who is going to use her time on the plinth to remind people about the arms fair taking place in east London later this week. Her message will be: "Nevermind art - disarm the arms trade."

Members of Christian peace groups will be joining campaigners against the arms trade on the steps of St Martin-in-the-Fields church on the north-eastern corner of Trafalgar Square at 8.40am to support her.
