Christian peace groups head for Aldermaston
Pax Christi, Christian CND and other peace groups will be joining Trident Ploughshares next week as they hold their annual protest outside Aldermaston Atomic Weapons Establishment near Reading. The three-day camp begins on 6 June. A spokeswoman said: "While US and British forces continue to search Iraq for traces of weapons of mass destruction, our camp will put the spotlight on the UK's weapons of mass destruction which everyone knows exist." She said: "Aldermaston provides the warheads for Britain's four Trident nuclear submarines normally berthed at Faslane, Scotland, whose deadly arsenal is over a thousand times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb which killed at least 200,000 people in 1945. We invite anyone who is happy to abide by our non-violence guidelines to join us as responsible global citizens in condemning this nuclear madness and celebrating life and hope." At 11.30am on Sunday campaigners will take part in an interfaith service for peace at the main gates of Aldermaston. A number of other activities, workshops and non-violent protests are planned during the three days. For more information call: 07904 450307.
