The Most Reverend Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Birmingham, issued the following statement last night: The people who planned and planted the car bomb in Birmingham city centre on Saturday 3 November, intended to kill and injure innocent people. I thank God that no one suffered serious injury in the incident. This deliberate targeting of defenceless and innocent people shows just how evil terrorism is. No one can justify such actions. No one should support or defend them. At this time of increased anxiety, I ask people of every faith to pray to God for peace in our troubled world and in our City of Birmingham. May God protect us from all evil and harm. May God guide us, and our leaders, in the pathways of righting the injustices of our world, and building lasting peace.
