Thicket Priory
The Carmelite nuns at Thicket Priory, near York, have established a website this week to mark the 50th anniversary of their presence in Yorkshire. The community first founded at Exmouth in 1926 moved to Thicket in 1955. Thicket Priory is one of 21 Carmels around the country. Situated not far from the city of York it is built on the site of a 12th Century Cistercian monastery of nuns which was destroyed during the Reformation. There is evidence of a devotion to 'Our Lady of Thicket' dating from this time. To find out more, visit their new website at: www.carmelite.org/thicket
