Lenten focus on water justice

The Ecumenical Water Network is calling on Christians to mark the forthcoming season of Lent with reflection and action on water justice.

During the Seven Weeks for Water initiative, theologians and church activists from Africa, Europe, North and South America will share short biblical meditations for each week, along with some campaigning ideas and resources.

"Traditionally Lent is a time for concentrating on what is essential in life and opening our hearts to our neighbours, for example by fasting and giving to the needy," says EWN coordinator Maike Gorsboth. "The Seven Weeks for Water initiative encourages Christian groups and individuals to deepen this experience, reflecting on the concrete issue of water justice."

The first set of shared materials will be available online at water.oikumene.org from Ash Wednesday, 25th February. EWN will also provide an RSS stream for the duration, which will allow groups and congregations to visibly participte on their own websites.

Resources will be available in English, Spanis, German and French. For more information on what you can do to get involved go to www.oikoumene.org/7-weeks-for-water.
