The Livesimply group of St John Vianney parish in West Green, Westminster Diocese, has organised an online meeting this week on the topic of 'Faith and Biodiversity'. The speaker is Fr Sean McDonagh on Thursday 17 February from 7.30pm - 9pm.

Fr Sean will be speaking on Biodiversity in connection with the international meeting in Kuming, China this coming April. This Conference of Parties (COP15) in Kunming offers opportunities to make links between Biodiversity and issues raised in the Climate Change talks in Glasgow in November 2021 and with Pope Francis' Encyclical entitled 'Laudato Si - On Care for our Common Home'.

Fr Sean says: "It is important that we get an accurate understanding of how serious the destruction of biodiversity is for planet Earth.

"As a species we need to educate ourselves about the impact of our wasteful, industrial societies and, most of all we need to urgently devise strategies and lifestyles which will allow us to live in a more sustainable way with the rest of creation. All of us will need to be involved in shaping this sustainable lifestyle. It is essential if we are to leave a beautiful, vibrant and fruitful planet to future generations."

Fr Sean McDonagh is a Columban priest from Ireland. He is known internationally as an eco-theologian who is working to raise awareness on the connectedness between justice and peace issues, environmental sustainability and faith. He spent 20 years in the Philippines where he witnessed first-hand the impact of changing farming practices and loss of biodiversity in local rainforests.

All are welcome.
