The Pope's charity has donated eight intensive care ventilators and six Fuji ultrasound scanners to needy hospitals in Brazil working with Covid-19 patients.

The apostolic almoner, Polish Cardinal Konrad Krajewski said the donations were made possible through the generous support of the Hope Association. This Italian charity finds high-tech life-saving medical equipment through donors, and arranges for their shipping and installation in hospitals.

The equipment will be delivered to hospitals in Brazil chosen by the Apostolic Nunciature, so that "this gesture of Christian solidarity and charity can really help the poorest and neediest people," Cardinal Krajewski said.

The Office of Papal Charities has donated medicines and equipment to many health facilities around the world struggling in emergency situations.

After the United States, Brazil has the world's highest level of coronavirus, reporting more than 3.3 million cases. Nearly 108,000 people have died of Covid in Brazil to date.
