Ministry team leader appointed for Catholic HIV charity

As part of their recent strategic plan, UK based Catholics for AIDS Prevention & Support (CAPS) has appointed Rev Dr RE Vernon O'Brien as Ministry Team Leader.

CAPS is the only national Christian HIV charity addressing the needs of people living with HIV in England and Wales. This is the first full time salaried post for the charity.

Dr Vernon O'Brien will lead in the development of a small team to increase CAPS' capacity for ministry. She has been involved in HIV and AIDS ministry continually since the early years of the pandemic.

Dr Vernon O'Brien previously held the posts of Director of the 'Selly Oak Centre for Mission Studies' and most recently Deputy Director for Global Relations with the Anglican agency the 'United Society Partners in the Gospel' (USPG).

Chairperson of CAPS, Dr Vincent Manning said: "We are delighted that Dr Vernon O'Brien has made history by accepting our first full time appointment. She is extremely distinguished within the world of HIV internationally. She is an accomplished theologian and also has the hands-on pastoral sensitivity that will be required in this role. We feel blessed that she has joined CAPS. We discern the Holy Spirit at work".
