Londoners? Godless?
Londoners are the most prayerful people in Britain, according to a new poll.
A survey of more than 2,000 British adults found that 38 per cent of those who live in London were likely to pray, as opposed to 15 per cent of the general British public.
The poll, commissioned by Premier Christian News, found that the Scots pray the least: only 14 per cent of those questioned said they would pray.
Jonathan Oloeyde, the leader of the National Day of Prayer said that the challenges of living in the capital might make people more prone to pray. He explained: "London is a challenging big city. Sometimes with all the issues around knife crime and gun crime… people in London I think, are more open to prayer because of what they deem to be challenging circumstances..in and around where they live."
He added: "We are living in a 'clear and present danger', sometimes in big cities, where we may feel we may come under attack. That's why we pray more in London."
The poll also showed that only 38 per cent of Christians favoured saying prayers as compared to 52 per cent of those polled who belonged to other faiths.
