Gospel of 17th July 2019 - Matthew 11: 25-27

Jesus exclaimed, 'I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to mere children. Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do. Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.'

Reflection

In this short reading, Jesus uses the word 'revealing' twice. In the strict sense of the word, to reveal means to 'make previously unknown or secret information known to others'. It is such a beautiful word, and exactly the right word Christ uses here, as He clarifies to all of us what He is passionate about. We see that He is burning with desire to reveal His Father's will to all, and that each of us needs to have the openness of a little child to listen to His will, and to respond to it.
