Jesuit Missions speaker tour: 'Is leadership too important to be left to leaders?'

Fr Xavier Jeyaraj SJ, President of the Jesuit Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat (SJES) in Rome, is coming to speak at a number of Jesuit schools and parishes including Donhead school in Wimbledon on Wednesday 27th February. He will be speaking about Ignatian responses to 'Care of Creation' and the importance of leadership and how we can take action on being 'men and women for others'. This year marks teh 50th anniversary of the SJES.

Fr Xavier, originally from the Kolkata province has spent much of his life dedicated to working for the poor, especially amongst the Tribals in India. He led a social action centre in Kolkata before also working as a secretary of social action in the South Asian Jesuit conference and completing a PhD in Social Sciences. He was instrumental in setting up Jesuit Missions' partner Lok Manch, a network of around 100 organisations which advocates for the rights of more than 300,000 families in India. SJES assists Fr Arturo Sosa SJ, Fr General of the Society of Jesus, in delivering the mission of the society by promoting justice and reconciliation with creation.

Fr Xavier will also be speaking at the Xaverian Mission Spirituality Centre in Preston and at the Lauriston Jesuit Centre in Edinburgh.
