Global Healing - How faith helps us care for our common home

Source: CAFE

Global Healing is a film-based resource to help us to respond to the damage being done to our planet - our common home. It's for parishes, groups and individuals and aims to inform, challenge and equip people to engage with Pope Francis' vital call to Care For Our Common Home.

Bishop John Arnold, Chair of the Bishops' Environmental Advisory Group said: "Pope Francis calls on all of us to respond and this resource will help us do that together in our communities and families - for the sake of future generations. As Bishops, we are so very grateful to all of you who will make the time and effort to respond to Pope Francis' passionate plea to care for our common home."

Launched on Saturday 1 September, World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation - materials that make up this free resource can be downloaded from: www.ourcommonhome.co.uk

The Global Healing event begins with a shared meal, ideally with ecologically-friendly ingredients and food, followed by film clips featuring well-known experts, engaging testimonies and on-location filming from around the UK. There are times for discussion and prayer to help stir deeper ecological conversion and fresh practical responses.

Find out more by visiting the 'Leaders Guide' section of the site.

Follow-on material is available to create a short course - ideal as an Advent course.

The film clips are available as free downloads but DVD copies can be inexpensively purchased if needed. There are also downloadable posters, fliers, newsletter info and leaders guides providing links for deeper reflection and action.

As Pope Francis says: "Living our vocation to be protectors of God's handiwork is essential; it is not an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience. All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation."

Laudato si' - On the Care for our Common Home is the Pope's Encyclical Letter on the environment and human ecology. Pope Francis challenges us to consider the kind of world we want to leave to those who come after us. It's not just an 'environment encyclical', it leads us to ask ourselves about the meaning of existence and the values at the heart of social life: "What is the purpose of our life in this world? What is the goal of our work and all our efforts? What need does the earth have of us?"
