St Mary's Shaftesbury Shares the Journey in Refugee Week
St Mary's Shaftesbury pupils walked four miles as part of CAFOD's 'Share the Journey' campaign, as an act of solidarity for those who have been forced to flee their countries. The miles, multiplied by the number of girls who did the walk, is part of a message that will be sent to the Government calling for global agreements which ask for the human dignity and rights of migrants and refugees to be respected.
The younger girls in the school also made origami paper butterflies, each containing a prayer for those who have been forced to flee their homes because of conflict and persecution. The butterflies were installed in the school chapel and are a symbol of hope.
