Gaza - on the verge of catastrophe
The Revd John Howard writes in his blog: I have just returned from a short visit to Gaza in which we (a group of eight people under the banner of the Church of Scotland), heard time and again of the deteriorating situation in Gaza. We visited clinics, a vocational training centre, a human rights centre, a youth group, and met with the leaders of the Near East Council of Churches.
The message was consistent from each of them. Things have never been as bad as they are now - and they are deteriorating day by day.
...... The particular thing that has precipitated the present deterioration in the situation for ordinary people in Gaza is the decision by President Trump to cut the funding given by the U.S. to UNRA - the agency which has been helping the poorest families at least to have enough food. While the central market in Gaza City still exhibits a lot of produce, much of it is beyond the price that the poorest families can afford.
