Christian Aid welcomes One Planet Summit

President Macron

As the One Planet Summit wraps up, Mohamed Adow, Christian Aid's International Climate Lead, said it showed that countries are firmly committed to the Paris Agreement and that the momentum generated in the French capital two years ago is irreversible.

He said: "President Macron deserves a lot of credit for marking the second anniversary of the Paris Agreement by getting world leaders together to ensure we remain on track to tackle climate change.

"The climate challenge needs more than a single champion but President Macron is certainly doing his bit. As he says, let's make the world great again.

"Today's summit in Paris, the birthplace of the agreement that offers us the best chance to save the planet, has sent a clear message to the world that countries, states, cities, businesses and civil society are firmly committed to their Paris commitments and are coming good on their promises, with or without the US.

"Where there is political will money flows and this summit has started to see that crucial green finance uncorked. The global demand for clean technology is a great investment opportunity for private investors but also for development banks and leaders that want to see their countries prosper."
