Pax Christi issues position paper on extractives in Latin America
Pax Christi International has published a position paper on extractives in Latin America. The paper was published to coincide with an upcoming panel discussion on extractives in Latin America to take place in Brussels on 31 October. Pax Christi will be promoting this statement to EU officials from the European Commission, the EU External Action Service and the European Parliament next week during a lobbying tour with a delegation from Latin America.
The delegation includes: Ms Martha Inés Romero, Regional Coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean, Colombia, Pax Christi International; Mr Gilberto Hernández, Centre for Human Rights Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas (FRAYBA), our member organisation in Mexico and Ms Mikeas Sánchez Gómez, Zoque indigenous community from Chiapas.
Mikeas is part of an indigenous movement called ZODEVITE which has won this year's Pax Christi International peace prize.
