There was a real buzz at St Gabriel’s Church in Archway, north London, last week, as the parish held a mission in preparation for their Golden Jubilee celebrations next month

The week began with a special session for young people led by the Catholic Lay Evangelisation Agency (CaFE).

CaFE also led sessions in place of the homily during the weekend Masses. Throughout the week, guest speakers and preachers included Fr Pat Fitzgerald, from St Joseph’s, Highgate - a Passionist - like the parish’s patron St Gabriel Possenti and Fr Gerry McCarthy from the Diocese of Galway. Ellen Teague from the Columbans gave a talk on the Stewardship of Creation.

St Gabriel’s is a state-of-the-art modern church built in 1967. The mission that it was based on was founded by the Passionists in a little chapel nearby in 1928. The present parish is a lively community with man groups that meet for prayer, social action, Sacramental preparation, youth work and the support of others in the life the Church.

On Sunday 11th June, Cardinal Vincent Nichols will be presiding over a special Mass to celebrated St Gabriel’s Golden Jubilee.
