CSAN welcomes passage of Homelessness Reduction Bill through second reading in Parliament
Following the unanimous vote to pass Bob Blackman's Private Member's Bill, the Homelessness Reduction Bill, at its second reading on Friday 28th October, Phil McCarthy, CEO of CSAN (Caritas Social Action Network) said: "We were extremely pleased to see the Homelessness Reduction Bill pass its second reading in Parliament. We would like to thank all our supporters who signed our e-action encouraging their MP to attend the debate, show their support and secure the Bill's passage.
"We support the Bill's focus on prevention and treating homeless people with dignity. We very much hope that the 'Code of Practice' it references will be drafted in time for the third reading and that it will include engagement with the voluntary sector as part of best practice.
"We know how much our charities have to offer to councils working to keep people in adequate accommodation and we will continue to advocate for partnership work between Government, local authorities and the voluntary sector."
