Ecumenical Council for Corporate Responsibility - latest newsletter

The latest monthly round-up of news from the Churches and other sources in the areas of economic justice, human rights and environmental sustainability is now out.

The Ecumenical Council for Corporate Responsibility (ECCR) has been looking at Churches' ethical investment, policy in relation to destructive extractive industries, conflict minerals and disinvesting from fossil fuels, along with other issues.

The University of Cambridge has rejected calls to divest its £5.9bn endowment from fossil fuels, as students, academics and the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, have called for. The General Assembly of the Church of Scotland has voted not to invest in companies whose major business depends on the extraction and sale of the most unclean energy sources. It has also agreed to ask its investors trustees to engage with firms to encourage them to move away from fossil fuels and to invest instead in renewables and a more sustainable future. The Anglican mission agency Mission to Seafarers has launched a Corporate Partnerships Portfolio with suggestions for how the maritime industry can deliver on corporate social responsibility.
