London: Two vacancies for residential posts in hostel for Catholic students


Vacancies have arisen for two complementary attractive residential posts in a central London 80 bed hostel for Catholic university students: These are: a Director/Warden (£28,000 per annum) and an Assistant Director Warden (£22,000 per annum). 1. Director/Warden

Director/Warden of Catholic Student Hostel in London (SW7)
80 beds

Job type and Salary
Full time, residential. Duties will include rota based week-ends and evening work.
£28 000

Start Date and Benefits

1st July 2016 OR 1st September 2016
On-site accommodation, breakfast all year, evening meal week days in term time.

Accountable to:
The Foundation St Peter Fourier and Blessed Alix Le Clerc based in France

Purpose and Objective

• To manage the Hostel in line with its Mission Statement
• To manage the Hostel within an agreed Financial Plan

Description

• To manage the annual student recruitment and selection process
• To manage the Student Induction process including the annual Induction Day
• To manage the promotion of the Vacation Guest Business
• To manage the promotion of the meeting rooms and facilities
• To manage the pastoral care of the students and the welfare of guests
• To manage the HR function for staff (4 full-time, and 5 part-time)
• To manage the accommodation, premises and plant
• To manage the Health, Safety and Security Policies and their implementation
• To manage the external contracts including the Catering
• To manage the operation within the financial policy laid down by the Charity of the Congregation of Our Lady, Canonesses of St Augustine and the operational guidelines of the Executive Committee
• Report to the Executive Committee

Person Specification

Essential

• English as a first language, or equivalent, and a good working knowledge of French
• Proven management experience in the hospitality industry or similar, must include experience in financial management and staff management
• The ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing and by social media
• Ability and willingness to embrace and contribute to the ethos of the hostel
• Ability to relate to students and guests from a wide variety of backgrounds

Desirable

• Educated to degree level or equivalent

Administrator/Receptionist, Housekeeper and Chef Manager report to Assistant Warden

Purpose and Objective

To assist the Director for the daily operation and administration in line with the Hostel Mission Statement.

Description

To assist the Director in:

• Student recruitment selection and accommodation allocation
• Student induction process including the annual Induction Day
• Organization and supervision of the Sub-Wardens' evening and night duties
• Operation of the vacation guest business
• Operation of the meeting rooms and facilities
• The day to day pastoral care of the students and welfare of guests
• The HR function for staff
• Day to day health, safety and security duties
• The daily on site catering operation
• Other duties which the Director/Warden may require to be undertaken
• Report to the Director/Warden as directed

Profile/Person Specification

Essential

• English as a first language, or equivalent, and a good working knowledge of French
• Proven administrative experience including use of office IT programmes
• Proven supervisory experience in a customer-facing environment
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing and by social media
• Ability to relate to and support students, staff and guests from a wide variety of backgrounds
• Ability to take a "hands-on" and practical approach to tasks
• Ability to work in a team, with discretion and diplomacy
• Ability to work under pressure
• Ability and willingness to embrace and contribute to the ethos of the hostel
• Ability to empathise and deal sympathetically with students experiencing difficulty or having personal problems.

Desirable

• Educated to Degree level, or equivalent (A/C).
• Experience of residential hostel work
• Experience with young people
