Brentwood: Bishop McMahon to speak on 'Wrestling with forgiveness'
Bishop Thomas McMahon is giving a talk on: 'Wrestling with forgiveness' at Brentwood Cathedral Conference Centre this Saturday. He will first look at forgiveness in Scripture and the Old Testament before focusing on forgiveness in our own lives and forgiveness of others. In his talk he will cite some powerful examples of forgiveness, including that of Nelson Mandela, who said of his captivity: "If I was bitter it would mean that they were still controlling me."
He will also speak about Gordon Wilson, whose daughter died at Enniskillen. "From that day on, he preached forgiveness," says Bishop Thomas. I heard him speak at Brentwood Ursuline School - it was very powerful."
"Forgiveness enables the forgiver; lack of forgiveness eats like an acid through the person who refuses to forgive. This is a topic which could help a lot of people. So many have a problem with forgiveness but if they go through life holding a grudge and nursing it, they are eventually consumed by it."
The talk is at 10.30am on Saturday, 5 March, in Brentwood Cathedral Conference Centre. There will be time for questions afterwards.
