Colombia: Another priest killed in armed robbery

Another priest was shot dead in Colombia last week. Father Andrew Duque Echeverry was killed on Friday, 3 October in Medellin. His funeral took place on Saturday, 4 October. The auxiliary bishops of the archdiocese and many other priests concelebrated the Mass. In a statement, the Archdiocese of Medellin said everyone was saddened and shocked.

Father Andrew Duque Echeverry was ordained a priest on November 25, 1995, and served the parish of San Buenaventura, in the municipality of Bello for four years."We deplore these facts that threaten human life, we implore God that these painful events do not happen ever again in our city" says the statement.

An initial police report says Fr Echeverry was the victim of a robbery which ended badly, and was stabbed at the exit of the underground. His body was taken to the morgue and his identification was delayed because he had been robbed of everything, including all personal identification documents and other belongings.

In 2013 seven priests were killed in Colombia.
