The latest issue of the Columban Missionary Society newsletter ‘Vocation for Justice’ is now out. It highlights Climate Change and the Energy Bill, the role of Military Chaplains, an Autumn pilgrimage to El Salvador, amongst other issues of Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation (JPIC). There is a report on the launch of Sean McDonagh’s latest book, ‘Fukushima – The Death Knell for Nuclear Energy?’

At the recent General Assembly of the Columbans in September 2012, the Society affirmed its commitment to JPIC and renewed its call for the Catholic community to live in solidarity with the poor and with the exploited Earth. “We recommend that the Society continue its commitment to raise awareness of the ongoing threat of Climate Change as it is manifested in global warming, access to water and mining”, said the concluding statement; and, “we recommend that the Society continue accompanying and defending the rights of Migrants”. The Columbans will also continue their commitment to awareness raising on Sustainable Food and Patenting of Life.

Vocation for Justice is a 12-page magazine sent out three times a year to around 8,000 readers, and there is a voluntary subscription requested every two years. The Columban JPIC Office in Britain is headed by Fr Peter Hughes.
