Young
Adult Mass in Nairobi
Francis Njuguna
More than 300 young Catholics drawn from various parts of the metropolitan archdiocese of Nairobi on Saturday, converged at the Holy Eucharist Catholic Church, King'eero near Nairobi for their year's annual senior youth Mass.
In a message read on his behalf by Father Peter Muigai, the chaplain Youth Coordinator for the archdiocese, His Grace Ndingi Mwana 'aNzeki urged the youth to be of this world but not for it.
He recalled that there were many forces that were working against the well-being of the young people, such as drug and alcohol abuse, and pre-marital sex.
He said one of the most effective ways to confront such forces was for the young people to abide with the teachings of the Church both within family, church and school levels.
Recalling the Holy Eucharist was central in the religious life of the young people, His Grace Ndingi urged them to strive to partake in it.
The colourful Mass, which was followed by a seminar on marriage, courtship and religious vocations conducted by Father Raphael Mbugua. Many priests and religious involved in youth work joined in the celebration.
The theme for the day was: Just as I have loved you, love one another, John 13: 34, which has been chosen by the Pope for next year's youth assembly to be held in Sydney, Australia.
