Westminster and Southwark host weekend of festivals for young Catholics

This weekend hundreds of young Catholic across the South East of England will celebrate two Youth Festivals, one in Hertfordshire, for the Archdiocese of Westminster, and one in Kent, for the Archdiocese of Southwark.

Bright Lights, Westminster's Festival, began tonight and continues until Monday afternoon, It caters for people around 16-30. Joining them will be speakers such as Timothy Radcliffe OP, The Bishop of Galilee, Bishop Elias Shacour, Fiona Hendy and David Wells. The festival promises to be a time for prayer, reflection and celebration, with music from band such as CJM, Crossbeam, UGC and Bronx-based priest Fr Stan Fortuna who will be there to speak as well as sing. There are also many groups and organisations involved including the incredible mime artist Steve Murray.

This year Bright Lights celebrates its 10th annual Festival with the theme 'Beautiful' the incredible beauty of God's sacrifice for us, His love for us and His transformation of our lives. In Southwark preparations are underway for tomorrow's Youth Festival where they are expecting 500 young people from 12-16. The theme is "Change the World! Stewardship: care for the world created by God."

There will be input by CAFOD and Mass will be celebrated a 5pm by Bishops Ambrose. Southwark will also be expecting many of the musicians and speakers that are attending Bright Lights. There will also be many workshops and activities to bring together the talents and skills of all young people. There are workshops in the afternoon (including Steve Murray doing mime and drumming activities) and CJM providing the music. It end with Mass at 5pm followed by a BBQ and Disco.
