Leeds:
Trinity & All Saints explores witch myths
Ghouls, spooks and witches are getting ready to come out to haunt
us this Halloween. But staff at Leeds Trinity & All Saints
aren't scared in fact, they are busy exploring the myths
and legends that surround witches in preparation for a conference
on "Bodies of Myth New Perspectives."
Contributions to the one-day conference, which will be held at
Trinity & All Saints' Horsforth campus in July 2007, are now
being sought.
Dr David Kennedy, Conference Organiser, explains: "There
are all sorts of stories that surround witches and other mythical
characters. We hope to encourage people to look at myths in a
much wider context and to present their work not just via traditional
academic papers, but using creative media, be it film, poetry
or live performance."
"Bodies of Myth New Perspectives" will
look at mythological figures and themes in all areas of the humanities
from foundational myths of faith and nation to retellings
of traditional stories and their significance in today's
society. The conference will appeal to people who have an interest
in all areas of myths and legends and their contemporary portrayal
in literature, film, art and religion.
