New resources to help Catholics prepare for Synod

A range of materials to help Catholics join in prayer and reflection for the forthcoming Synod of Bishops has been produced by the liturgy office of the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales.

The 11th Ordinary General Assembly of Synod of Bishops will be held in Rome from October 2 - 23. Its title is The Eucharist: Source and Summit of the Life and Mission of the Church. Pope Benedict XVI has asked that the whole Church joins itself in prayer and reflection.

The synod brings to a close the Year of the Eucharist called for by Pope John Paul II. During this year the dioceses of England and Wales have been making use of a wide range of materials produced by the liturgy office for prayer, worship and continuing formation.

This final resource offers brief extracts from the Instrumentum Laboris for the synod, highlighting themes that the bishops will be reflecting on, and sample intercessions for the Prayer of the Faithful. It also provides extracts, suitable for inclusion in parish newsletters, from Celebrating the Mass, a pastoral guide by the Bishops of England and Wales to the celebration of Mass. Additionally, there are materials for a weekly Holy Hour leading up to and including the time of the Synod, exploring different dimensions of the Mystery of the Eucharist.

The resource is available for free-downloading from http://www.liturgyoffice.org.uk
