Three priests sign £1m record deal

Claire Bergin

Three Catholic priests from Northern Ireland have signed a one million pound record deal with music giant Sony BMG.

Father Eugene O'Hagen, 48, his brother Martin, 45, and their old school friend David Delargy, 44, all have parishes in the diocese of Down and Connor. Their contract, which they agreed on the steps of Westminster Cathedral yesterday, has an exemption which means they can leave any promotional work to deal with parish duties. They have promised to give all their earnings to charity.

The trio started singing together at St MacNissi's College, Co Antrim. They trained for the priesthood in Belfast and at the Irish College in Rome.

Fr David said: "We are priests first and foremost. Our work will be at the heart of our plans."

The priests' first disc is due to be released in November.
