Remembrance
Sunday, Peace Pilgrimage
Prayers were said across the UK yesterday for the millions of
servicemen and women who lost their lives in all past and current
wars.
The Queen led Remembrance Sunday tributes
at the Cenotaph in Whitehall as thousands of veterans marched
past the monument. She was followed by the Duke of Edinburgh,
Prince Charles, Prince William and other members of the royal
family. Troops on active service in Iraq and Afghanistan also
held services.
This year's events come just two days before the 90th anniversary
of the armistice at the end of the First World War in which more
than 900,000 British soldiers died.
This evening, members of Pax Christi from around the world will
be gathering in Ypres, Belgium, scene of some of the worst battles
of the First World War, to take part in two days of prayer vigils
and study workshops. Many peace pilgrims will be staying with
local families. Tomorrow morning, 11 November, participants have
been invited take part in the Poppies Parade and the following
official ceremony under the Menin Gate. See: www.ieper.be
The Peace Pilgrimage is an initiative
of Pax Christi Lille, Pax Christi Flanders, the Youth Service
of the Diocese of Bruges and the Sint-
Michielsbeweging, with the support of Pax Christi International,
Austria, France, Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom. For
