Oxford theatre company to hold auditions for community passion play
Aspiring amateur actors have a rare opportunity to work with Oxford's most innovative theatre company this summer. Creation Theatre Company, famous for its open-air Shakespeare in unusual venues, is inviting local people to audition for a volunteer community chorus to perform in its forthcoming production of The Oxford Passion at Oxford Castle.
Two groups of 20 will alternate performances over the five and a half week run. Working alongside a professional team of actors, choreographers and directors, this is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a summer production that will be seen by over 9,000 people. The chorus will involve movement, speaking and singing. Anyone aged 16+ is welcome to audition, regardless of experience. Open auditions will be held in April before the shortlist is selected. Rehearsals will run from June August in evenings and at weekends.
The Oxford Passion retells the Gospel story in Creation's fresh and contemporary style and forms part of an exciting summer season at the atmospheric Oxford Castle, which also includes Hamlet and The Taming of the Shrew.
David Parrish, Producer and Artistic Director, explains: "Creation has become known for its exciting productions in unusual venues, including a park, BMW Group Plant Oxford, and Oxford Castle. With the community chorus, we can now involve local people directly in the experience."
Performances run from 1 August until 8 September 2007. For further information please visit www.creationtheatre.co.uk , call 01865 761 393 or email deputypro@creationtheatre.co.uk before Friday 6 April.
