Dominicans gather for historic General Chapter
More than two hundred Dominicans of the Order of Preachers, are gathered in Providence, Rhode Island, for their General Chapter to elect the next Master General. The delegates, representing over 6, 000 brothers, 2, 000 nuns and over 100,000 lay Dominicans, will be electing their 87th Master General since the foundation of the Order in 1215 by St Dominic de Guzman. The election will be held this Saturday. The new Master General will succeed Fr. Timothy Radcliffe, who was the first English Master of the Order. A number of famous saints were Dominicans, including Thomas Aquinas, Albert the Great and Catherine of Siena. During the General Chapter, from 10 July to 8 August, will reflect on their current mission in the world and it's future.
