Ailing Pope taken to hospital

Pope John Paul II was taken to the Gemelli hospital in Rome last night (Tuesday) after developing breathing problems, Vatican sources have said. The Holy Father went down with flu on Sunday, and had already cancelled most engagements for the week. A member of the papal household, American Archbishop James Harvey said the Pope had congestion and a slight fever during the day. Archbishop Vincent Nichols of Birmingham told ICN: "The Holy Father is in my prayers at this time as he will be in the prayers of every Catholic and person of good will in the world. "I am sure that he is receiving the best possible medical care. I hope that he will recover his strength and soon be able to take up his duties again soon. But these things are all in the hands of God."
