Eastern Africa: more Catholic radio stations granted licences
The Catholic Church in Eastern Africa is set to increase its use of the broadcast media, as more dioceses have been licensed to operate radio stations. Radio Tigabane of Mzuzu Diocese, Malawi, will go on air this Saturday. The building of the radio station started over two years ago, AMECEA NEWS reported. According to Fr Eugene Ngoma who is in charge of the project, the broadcast licence was officially issued in June. In Tanzania, two more dioceses were granted broadcasting licenses in August. Mbulu and Tanga dioceses received their licences from Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA). Musomo Diocese is also considering opening a radio station. Meanwhile, Radio Mosi-oa-Tunya of Livingstone Diocese, Zambia, has been granted a full broadcast permit, which is valid for seven years but renewable yearly. It is on 106 Frequency Modulation (FM). The objective of the radio station is to evangelize through participation in the development needs of the people of Livingstone and the surrounding areas. It owes its existence and success to donor support and the contribution of the local people. Source: CISA
